Extension and Redesignation of TPS for Ukraine

Extension and Redesignation of TPS for Ukraine

TPS is a temporary immigration status granted to eligible nationals of a foreign state designated for TPS under the INA, or to eligible individuals without nationality who last habitually resided in the designated foreign state, regardless of their country of birth.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Ukraine by 18 months, from October 20, 2023, to April 19, 2025. This allows existing TPS beneficiaries to maintain their status as long as they meet the eligibility criteria. Those wanting to extend TPS through April 2025 must re-register during the specified 60-day re-registration period. Additionally, Ukraine is being redesignated for TPS, enabling Ukrainian nationals who’ve continuously resided in the U.S. since August 16, 2023, to apply for TPS for the first time. Initial applicants must also show continuous physical presence since October 20, 2023.
