The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced an exemption from the biometric services fee for Form I-539, the Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status. Starting from October 1, USCIS is waiving the $85 biometric services fee as a part of the Form I-539 application process. If your application is postmarked on or after October 1, you won’t need to pay this fee. However, for applications submitted before October 1, some applicants may still have ASC (Application Support Center) appointments scheduled and should attend them as planned. In most cases, after October 1, applicants won’t be scheduled for biometric services appointments. However, if USCIS determines that biometrics are necessary, applicants will receive a notice providing instructions for attending their biometric services appointment.
