USCIS has updated its guidance on expedite requests, allowing for expedited processing of cases deemed urgent by any level of U.S. government due to public interest, safety, or national security. When a federal agency requests expedited processing, USCIS will generally defer to that agency’s assessment.
For travel-related requests, USCIS may expedite Form I-131 for individuals needing to leave the U.S. urgently for personal, academic, or professional reasons. This includes evaluating whether the applicant filed timely and if processing delays would affect their travel plans.
The update also outlines the submission and processing of expedite requests, allowing users to utilize USCIS online tools for submitting requests and supporting evidence. USCIS will communicate decisions on expedite requests made through their Contact Center. This new guidance is effective immediately and replaces any previous instructions.
