Previously U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had provided 12-month extension validity of a Green Card for permanent residents who properly filed I-90 to renew an expiring or expired Green Card.
On September 26, 2022, USCIS started to automatically extend the validity of Permanent Resident Cards for 24 months for lawful permanent residents who file Form I-90 which is an application to Replace Permanent Resident Cards.
Applicants with a pending I-90 form will receive USCIS’s updated receipt notices. Notices will be presented with an expired Green Card as evidence of continued status.
