Agreement Reached between the United States and Canada on Northern Border and Asylum Seekers, Reports Los Angeles Times

The United States and Canada have reportedly reached an agreement allowing both countries to turn back unauthorized asylum seekers who cross the northern border, according to internal documents and a source familiar with the negotiations. The new policy, which applies to non-citizens caught within 14 days of crossing the border, is the latest expansion of President Biden’s efforts to deter unauthorized entry into the U.S. The U.S. hopes that the agreement will reduce incentives for irregular border crossings. The policy is expected to take effect soon.
